Based in eastern North Carolina, April Strange is an artist who works across traditional and digital mediums. From the time she could first hold a pencil, April started drawing and hasn’t stopped since.

Growing up, she was heavily inspired by the timeless characters and beloved worlds of fables and fairytales. These magical stories ignited a lifelong passion for art and a desire to create pieces that evoked a sense of wonder and nostalgia.

April is a self-taught artist who primarily works with colored pencils, acrylic paint, and digital art. Her work aims to capture the soul of her subjects, whether that subject is wildlife or a beloved character in the midst of a sweeping, emotional scene. She enjoys exploring dramatic chiaroscuro and different lighting techniques to help bring her cinematic visions to life.

At the heart of her work lies a deep-rooted love for storytelling. Her art is often inspired by whimsical and imaginative elements reminiscent of her childhood and her love for fantasy. April has illustrated two children’s books: Mazie Mouse Wants to Dance, which she also authored and self-published, and Watch Out for Womp Womps. Outside of her studio, April enjoys spending time with her family, caring for animals, and finding inspiration through traveling, reading, and writing.
